Why we use it

Canvas that contributes to the image.

The random, uneven cotton structure gives the print a natural fabric character instead of a mechanically uniform surface. Its warm ivory base softens the ground beneath colour and suits painting reproductions, expressive digital art, portraiture and monochrome work.

For stretched canvas we print an additional 9 cm on every side for wrapping around the stretcher and stapling safely at the back. That allowance is production area, not cropped artwork.

BEST FOR

  • Painterly and textured artwork
  • Fine-art reproductions
  • Portraits with a warm, natural ground
  • Large rolled or professionally stretched pieces
  • Colour and monochrome work that benefits from fabric character

Cotton, not a sales slogan

“Water resistant” does not tell you what the canvas is made from.

Water resistance usually describes the ink-receiving coating. It can be useful, but it is separate from the quality and character of the fibre beneath. We select 100% cotton for fine-art canvas because the weave, touch and natural base are part of the finished object.

How a canvas print is handled, stretched and finished

This manufacturer video demonstrates canvas handling and stretching. Golden Ads uses the studio finishing sequence described on our own finishing page.

Artwork finishing

Three different jobs—not three “protective coats”.

Initial Hahnemühle print-sealing layer

A compatible fine aerosol layer can help seal the printed surface and reduce handling damage. This is the initial sealing stage.

Selective clear GOLDEN gel texture

This is not named or sold as a protective layer. Clear acrylic gel is used sparingly on selected passages to build painterly relief and support the composition.

Final GOLDEN artist varnish

The final varnish unifies the chosen sheen and provides the outer removable finishing layer appropriate to the work.

A real cotton surface at a fair price

Buy the artwork on a material worthy of it.

Do not let a single “water-resistant” claim distract from the fibre, weave and finish you will live with every day.
