Golden Ads artwork finishing

Sealing, selective texture and final varnish—each has a different job.

We do not call every application a “protective coat”. The sealing layer, clear gel texture and final artist varnish are different materials used for different reasons.

The correct names

Three stages, not “one, two or three protective coats”.

The finishing path is selected for the artwork. Poster and standard photographic papers do not receive these hand-applied studio stages.

Hahnemühle initial print-sealing layer

A fine, compatible aerosol film is used where appropriate to seal the printed surface and help reduce abrasion, fingerprints and handling marks. The aim is to stabilise the print without changing the paper or canvas character.

Selective clear GOLDEN gel texture

This is not described as protection. Clear acrylic gel is applied only where the composition benefits from physical depth—selected strokes, passages or highlights—not as a blanket decorative effect.

Final GOLDEN artist varnish

The final varnish is the outer finishing stage. It can unify sheen, support colour saturation and provide a removable surface appropriate to the artwork and chosen presentation.

Where it applies

Canvas and compatible fine-art work only.

Canvas artwork: may receive the full image-specific sequence—initial sealing, selective gel build and final varnish—after test prints, drying and inspection.

Fine-art paper: may receive a compatible initial Hahnemühle sealing treatment when technically and visually appropriate. It is not automatically gel-textured or varnished like canvas.

Poster and photographic paper: no hand-applied canvas finishing options.

RESTRAINED BY DESIGN

  • Tested on the printed result, not judged only on screen
  • Clear gel used selectively, never as a generic heavy effect
  • Drying and inspection between stages
  • Minimal interference with colour and image structure
  • Final choice recorded per artwork

Technical reference film

Canvas stretching and surface handling

The film below is an external handling reference. The Golden Ads material sequence is the Hahnemühle and GOLDEN workflow described above, not the branded coating shown by another manufacturer.

External technical demonstration by PermaJet; shown for stretching and handling context.

Finish only where the artwork benefits

Texture should support the image, never overpower it.
